Gone are the days when cellular phones are used only for making telephone calls. With the dawn of the smartphone, which allows the user to access the internet, traditional cell phones continue to be sold, but in much smaller numbers. Are you having problems deciding which smart phone to choose? What will you use it for? Obviously you get a cellular or smartphone, to communicate with another person. However, there’s so much you can do with one of these phones, you may have other reasons to get one. Do you need to surf the mobile internet? What about sending email or Twittering? If you don’t need these functions, you may still choose a traditional phone.

How do you type? Some people don’t mind using their number pad when typing; however others prefer having a slide out keyboard. Some smartphones use touch-screen technology. To help you decide which type of phone to get, deciding on how much typing you’ll do and which keyboard format is best for you, may help.

How will you access the internet? Most smart phones have the ability to access the internet with Wi-Fi. This enables you to access the internet when you find a wireless hotspot and do so without using your data plan which makes your cellular bill cheaper when using it at some locations.

What applications do you need? Smartphones are so easy to customize. Third-party applications, some open source, are available using the mobile internet. You can also find new applications on the manufacturer’s website for your particular smartphone. Depending upon the smart phone you own, you may be able to find up to 50,000 or more applications to choose from.

These suggested questions may not give you a specific recommendation as to which smartphone to choose, but they may give you some things to consider about what features you need based on how you intend to use your smartphone.

We are not talking about Commander Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Android is a mobile web application developed by Google that can be used by programmers to create new applications for the mobile phone and other mobile devices.

Why is this important to you? If you have a mobile phone, it is very important. The mobile Web is growing by leaps and bounds. What people are looking for in the mobile Web is features – features that will enhance their capabilities when using their mobile phone for pleasure or business. Not everyone has a Smartphone, but everyone doesn’t need one. The mobile Web is designed to provide benefits to all mobile Web users.

By developing new applications for mobile devices, more and more people will begin to see the benefit of the mobile Web. Mobile phone users will surf the Internet from their phones more with easier tools. Businesses will create more mobile websites to expand their business. Advertisers will have a new playground in which to attract customers.

The Android system is compatible with Java programming language. If you’ve ever played a game on your mobile phone then you have seen the Java cup of coffee logo. Java is used for a variety of applications already in use with mobile technology. The fact that Android is compatible makes it easier to integrate into the mobile Web.

Because Android is open source (meaning that it can be expanded when necessary) new applications can be added all the time. The idea is to enrich the Web experience from your mobile phone. Using your information like pictures and videos stored on your phone and the cellular phone’s capabilities, Android gives you all that your phone has to offer through maximum productivity. After all, that is what you want your phone to do for you when you need it to.

Android is important because it means more applications and better mobile phone utilization for you. Using an Android platform for mobile applications is just the next step in furthering the cause of the mobile Web.
